Fishing In Port Aransas

Fishing in Port Aransas

Fishing starts in the early hours and lasts until you want it to end. Fishing soothes the mind and gives you a chance to experience nature in a quiet fashion. For some, fishing is the party or the memory of the trip with good tales and usually heavy scales.  If you have never been fishing in Port Aransas, it is a great fishing location with plenty of species around as well as the best and friendliest guides around.

Where to fish??

There are plenty of places to fish around this town, including just off shore. If you’re lacking means of transportation on the water there are a few places to go to. Horace Caldwell Pier is one of them; which there is a fee per pole and per day. There are a few piers around town besides this one that you can go out and fish on all night as well.  Another option is the bulk head off of Charlie’s Pasture and at Robert’s Point Park. These locations are always neat to watch the porpoises and the ships cruise through the Lydia Ann Channel as you catch some fish and enjoy our little town of Port Aransas.

If you would rather fish on a boat, Port A has many options to choose from! There are charted fishing trips that will go either off shore or just out on the bay for several hours at a time and can take on a large group. Besides the charters, there are plenty of guides around town that will take you to their favorite spots and hook you up with quite possibly even more than just dinner. Most of the guides have been fishing for years and all around Port A so their knowledge of locations is usually successful and worth the money. Most guides will even clean and filet your fish, as well as vacuum pack them, which is extremely convenient while vacationing.

Tackle and Bait Supplies

Around town you can find tackle and bait supplies just about anywhere! Ace Hardware has some, along with Bilmore’s (another local hardware store) and most convenient stores also. There are several places to get bait and tackle on the marina as well as a few around town. Woody’s Sports Center has just about everything you need to fish along with local information about where to fish, who to fish with and they will even set you up with a great guide if that’s what you’d like.

Catch of the Day

The Fishing Experience

As a small child most of us learned how to fish. Possibly with a cane pole or a push button reel to start with! In this day and age, we seldom take time to sit down and take a break or even just enjoy the scenery. Most of us are tangled up with our busy lives and find it hard to make time to relax  in general. Relaxing is why you probably end up finding yourself at the Sandpiper to begin with!

Visiting the Texas coast is much more than just beach going and taking the time to go fishing while you’re down here. The best thing about fishing is that it will help pull you out of your busy life and let you worry only about what keeps stealing your bait!

Give your kids the experience of fishing and if you don’t have kids, take a friend that has never been fishing. Let your minds expand out of the world of technology and into the nature of fishing. There is nothing like a salty breeze and a first time feeling of a “fish on.”

Check out Woody’s Sport Center and find out some information about the options that you have while here in Port Aransas when it comes to fishing.

Sandpiper Summer

The Sandpiper Condominiums is a great place to be during the summer. The sun is hot and the sand is too!

We have some great things to offer here at the Sandpiper during the summer as far as amenities go for the whole family. For the kids we have an awesome shuffle-board set up as well as a ping pong table too. The tennis courts are perfect for getting some exercise in as well as the basketball courts. It gets hot during the day but the mornings and evenings are perfect for this. We have also recently added a table shuffle board in the lobby for “cool” entertainment as well!

From Memorial Day to Labor Day weekend we have our beach crew on duty! This means that canopies will be set up and sold in the mornings for $10.00. This canopy is good for all day but must be rented and paid for each day of your stay. We have stocked up on these so don’t worry about not having one! Along with the canopies, we set up chairs for you also and with those chairs come some cool drinks too!

Texas Sandfest 2017

Sandfest 2013

Sandfest 2013

This event was originally a beach day play date that started with 2 young mothers who would relax in chairs and build sandcastles with their children. Who knew!? What is now the largest sand sculpting contest in the world, started based on an idea of playing as a practice featuring a new design of art architecture. What better place can you think of to work your medium on?

Sandfest 2013

Sandfest 2013

This year Texas Sandfest is third weekend of April; April 21-23. The event starts on Friday (April 21st) at 9 am and will last well into the afternoon until 6 pm. Both Saturday and Sunday start at 9 am as well and shuts down at 6 pm. There are so many local vendors participating in this event as well as unique traveling vendors also. On all three days, live music will be playing throughout the day featuring different artists. The wristbands to get into the event will be $10 and are valid for each day of the contest! Kids under 12 are free!

Contestant 2

Sandfest 2014 Contestant 2

Texas Sandfest is a non-profit organization whose mission is to give back to the community by raising funds for local charities & scholarships for high school students. All of the workers for this globally renown event are volunteers from Port Aransas and other places. While the sculpting has been deemed a specific art of its own, the dates of this the event are also specifically chosen according to the monthly tide charts. This event is always held during the dates when the tide is at its lowest.

The Texas Sandfest is professionally judged based on creativity, skillful detail and originality as a huge proponent. This year there will be 19 sculptors who will bring their own unique style to the sand while the crowd watches day by day to see these creations evolve into fantastic sand sculptures.

Sandfest 2014

Sandfest 2014

This event brings 1000’s of people to the island and is definitely a must see among both adults and children! Some even come back year after year to enjoy this art display of the sand.  They can relax and feel sand between their toes.

Planning Spring Vacations at the Sandpiper

We enjoy the Spring season in Port Aransas just as much as any season at the Sandpiper. There are plenty of things to do during this time of year as well as great weather! It’s important to know a few things about booking a Spring Vacation here on Mustang Island, either as a heads up or just good information to know about the Spring time at the beach.

The weather has been so gorgeous lately! Lots of blue skies and sunshine in the recent weeks and we hope this trend continues into Spring. Spring usually has a few more cold and rainy days so it’s always important to check the weather before your trip! The days are typically warm and sunny with cooler evenings and mornings so be sure to pack a light jacket as well as a pair of comfortable shoes. We always feel that it’s better to be comfortable rather than not so this suggestion will give you a safe heads up to be sure you’re prepared for our weather! A pair of pants is always a great idea as well.

Port Aransas Beach View from Sandpiper Condos

With all the sunshine going on remember to bring sunscreen! Even though it is cooler outside and not necessarily in the summer temps, the sun can still burn you on a cool day and that’s never fun. Along with sunscreen you will want to pack some hats to help block the sun and of course get your shades on! We look forward to the warming temps of the Spring and hope that you are prepared for them also.

A common misconception about Spring Break vacations in Port A would be all of the Spring Break crowd! During the month of March tons of Spring Breakers are headed to the beach to enjoy sunshine but thankfully most of them stay in town; which clears the way to a more family oriented vacation at the Sandpiper. We don’t rent our beach condos to anyone under the age of 25 and anyone under this age must be accompanied by an adult.  So the chances of any obnoxious spring breakers is close to none with us here at the Sandpiper. With that being said we want you to feel comfortable bringing your kids to a safe beach resort with out any of the crowds that the town will attract. It’s always important to be safe and while driving on HWY 361 we highly encourage you to be very aware of the traffic and to never drink & drive.

An upcoming event for the Spring in Port A is Texas Sandfest! This is a HUGE event Port Aransas hosts and the largest one at that! The festival is located in town, on the beach and the advantage to staying at the Sandpiper is you avoid the crowds. You will have to call and see what the availability is for the Sandfest Dates as they are booking up very, very quickly.

Look online for your available dates for a memorable Sandpiper Spring vacation and enjoy some sunshine with us this season!

Valentine’s Sunrises

Valentine’s Day is the day that you get to treat your sweet with your love and thoughtful gifts. Valentine’s Day gifts are usually chocolates and flowers along with the occasional jewelry selection. But every now and then couples have a great idea to go and do things together and celebrate this holiday in a relaxing style. The best thing about Valentine’s day is that it’s all about loving and having fun! If you decide to come stay with us there are a few things here in Port Aransas that make it worth the trip.

Sea ShellFirst off, there is the obvious serenity of the ocean that soothes the soul and gets you feeling energized. Long walks on the beach, looking for shells or enjoying conversation is a fabulous way to share time with you partner and love the time you spend together. There is a dance in Port Aransas on Valentine’s day for those who are looking to boogie and if not, there are several wine stops to grab a nice bottle and head home. If you’re looking for a quiet evening after dinner you can come home to rent one of our broad selection of movie choices we have at the front desk. It’s always nice to have a relaxing evening with your love so why not bring them where love counts and memories matter! We would love for you and your Valentine to have a lovely memory of “that Valentine’s Day we went to the beach.”

Staying Motivated

January is full of different decisions Continued. Everyone wants to make a productive resolution that will full fill them for the rest of the year. The unique thing to which these resolutions come about is that they are all individually pleasing.

What some people fail to realize is that you have to actually make time to do these things.Things such as keeping a clean house, making time for YOU, exercising, whatever it is that makes you, you! Recognize that these actions full fill you and you personally, and that is what helps improve your well being.

It seems as simple as waking up earlier, making time for an energetic 10 minute work out, etc. But in reality, it takes effort to not press snooze!  When you’re planning things and lacking an outcome, realize it’s your motivation that will actually make the time to give yourself deserved YOU time. It’s kind of like a physical therapy exercise that you know will make you feel so much better in the long run, but meanwhile as you’re doing this exercise you are thinking of the millions of things that need to be done, ultimately feeling as if you don’t have time for this! Just remember that you do. You always have time for anything, but it needs to be a strong desire that helps with the follow through. When you really want to be relaxed, you are more likely to go on a short vacation or go get a massage, anything to please that annoying sensor going off. Sometimes our motivation to do things requiring a little hard work and taking time for you out of a busy schedule is often deterred so it’s important to remember it’s good for us in the long run.

Whatever your 2017 Resolution be, we hope that you stay motivated this year in following through with your grand ideas and plans. We also know that you deserve time for yourself too. Here at the Sandpiper we will go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable, satisfied and relaxed. Some people think vacations are a waste of money but money can’t buy the happiness you get when you enjoy a serene beach experience.

November in Port Aransas is quiet and relaxing. There are still plenty of visitors and the weather is absolutely perfect for visiting. It’s not too hot and still sunny as can be.
