While we’re still savoring every bit of summer, August is right around the corner, which means shopping for school supplies and getting ready to head back to school. There’s still plenty of time to dig your toes in the sand and soak up the sunshine one last time, though! Plan your Mustang Island vacation and stay in one of our Port Aransas oceanfront vacation rentals for one last hurrah before the school year starts.

🏖️ Beach It

While not totally unique, a summer vacation isn’t complete without at least one (or several) beach days. Go for a swim in the ocean or build intricate sandcastles that mirror the likes of those in the Sandfest competition. You can even book a sandcastle building lesson with the Port Aransas Sandcastle Guy to perfect your skills. Whether staying active with water activities or catching up on your latest read, a beach day on Mustang Island is one of the best ways to relax on your late summer vacation.

🪂 Soar Above the Coast with Chute ‘Em Up Parasail

Take your Mustang Island vacation to new heights with Chute ‘Em Up Parasail. Anyone in the family (ages 7 and up) can take part in the flying fun with Chute ‘Em Up. With 500 feet of line, you will be reeled out in a controlled and safe manner to heights of 200-300+ feet to take in the breathtaking views high over the waters of Port Aransas.  At the end of your ride, you will be reeled back in and land safely on the launch deck. The flight lasts anywhere from 8-10 minutes.

Tickets can be purchased online and are available for non-flying passengers as well.

🚣🏻‍♀️ Lighthouse Lakes Paddling Trail

Wander through extensive black mangroves and seagrass flats at Lighthouse Lakes Paddling Trail, the first Texas Paddling Trail mapped in 1999. Lighthouse Lakes makes up a series of four loops ranging from 1.25 miles to 6.8 miles and takes anywhere from 45 minutes to three hours, depending on the trail. The area offers prime bird watching and fishing opportunities, with a chance to catch spotted sea trout, red drum, and flounder in the channels.

For a unique Lighthouse Lakes experience, book a guided nighttime kayaking tour with GlowRow. GlowRow’s innovative GlowRow 3.0 lighting system will illuminate the waters beneath you as you paddle through the calm waters of Lighthouse Lake and learn about the history of the area.

⛴️ Take the Port Aransas Ferry for a Day Trip to Corpus Christi

Planning a day trip to Corpus Christi from Port Aransas is a breeze and well worth the short drive. Just a quick ferry ride and scenic 45-minute drive away, Corpus offers a mix of coastal culture and family-friendly attractions. Spend the day exploring the Texas State Aquarium, touring the historic USS Lexington, or strolling the Corpus Christi Bayfront for shopping and dining. It’s the perfect way to add a little extra adventure to your Port A vacation without straying too far from the beach.
