The seasons are changing quickly and we can’t believe it’s already November! It’s still not too cold down here, in fact it’s rather lovely. The cold fronts are moving down slowly, staying for about a day and then warming up once again. With all this weather change it’s not uncommon to see new birds around these parts. The colder it gets, the more that come!
Winter is an enjoyable time of year in Port Aransas, clearly not bikini weather but some days it’s warm enough and you’ll see dozens enjoying the sunshine in shorts and tanks, and maybe even their swimsuits.
Birding in South Texas is a common favorite among many Winter Texans and visitors during this time. There are several places to watch for these birds too. There is the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center of Port Aransas, Charlie’s Pasture on the bayside of HWY 361 and of course the open beach. Along our driveway we have a birding pond close to the entrance that will fill up with various species and the best part about this place is you can simply take a leisurely stroll from the property.
The Port Aransas Art Museum has several classes for you to take and brush up your skills or learn completely new things. These classes range from oil, pastels, watercolor, ceramic work and even jewelry making. You do have to register for these classes and some require you to have supplies as well.

What’s better than walking the beach looking for interesting things!? It’s always fun to find something on the beach and then researching to find out what it is. Sometimes you will be surprised at just how far some of these little treasures travel all around the Gulf of Mexico.
Of course there is fishing, which Port Aransas is known for. The locals say that the SheepHead bite consistently in the winter. After November, the floundering season starts back up again for those ‘giggers’ out there.
No matter how cold it gets we always have our Jacuzzi ready for you! There’s nothing like crisp, cold air and bubbling hot water on a winter day. Our pool is heated also in case you decided to go for a Polar Bear dip.
One last thing that seems to beautify Port Aransas during the winter are the sunsets and sunrises. For some reason the Winter brings amazing colors, probably because the air is so cold and molecules condense into forming beautiful and radiant sunsets/sunrises.
Even if you’re not staying for a whole month with us in the winter, chances are you will end up being a Winter Texan in the future yourself.
