Tropical Storm Bill Affecting the Gulf Coast in Port Aransas and North Padre Island

Tropical Storm Bill's Surf

Tropical Storm Bill’s Surf

From Tropical Storm Bill,  the coast and surrounding areas received quite a bit of rainfall along with a rising storm tide. The tropical storm produced some epic surf for the southern Gulf coast, many happy surfers down here! Along with the surf was a severe rip tide warning for  swimmers to be very cautious upon entering the water.bill's tide-2-3

A recent question from a guest about how Tropical Storm Bill did affect our coast was:

“ My family and I are coming this next weekend but we heard how high the tides have been, preventing access to the beach roads? Is this still the case?”

As result of both rain and storm surge, our beaches have been soaked and were recently inaccessible! The tides from the storm pushed breaking water all the way up to the dunes preventing vehicle access and causing the city to close off several beach access roads. The amount of rainfall and the receding storm surge left us with some soggy beach roads for several days after Bill passed through thus preventing the further vehicle access for anything less than a 4×4.

The good news though is that the beaches are much dryer now! The tide has receded back to normal and is no longer covering the roads. The wind and sun have dried out the  beach for current adequate driving conditions  and the strong storm rip tide is gone.

This is a photo from yesterday, 6/24/15.
